10 Halloween Costume Ideas for Dark Brown Hair with Bangs
Halloween is honestly one of my favorite times of the year. It’s the one time where you can completely transform into someone else, whether that’s spooky, glamorous, or just downright silly. Plus, I love any excuse to dress up and really go all in on a look. With my dark brown hair and bangs, I always try to pick costumes that work with my natural style instead of fighting against it. That way, I don’t have to worry about wigs slipping off or spending hours styling my hair. This year, I’ve been brainstorming tons of ideas, and I think I’ve narrowed it down to my top 10. These characters are fun, recognizable, and perfect for anyone with dark brown hair and bangs like me!
Here’s my lineup of potential Halloween costumes for this year:
1. Wednesday Addams (The Addams Family)
A spooky classic! Wednesday Addams’ dark, braided pigtails are a perfect match for my hair color. I’d just part my bangs down the middle, throw on a black dress with a white collar, add some black tights, and maybe carry around a tiny headless doll for effect. Bonus: her deadpan expressions are so fun to play up all night.
2. Zoey (K-pop Demon Hunter)
I wanted something a little different and bold this year, and Zoey has that cool K-pop-meets-gamer vibe. Think edgy leather pieces, chunky boots, and maybe some fun temporary hair color spray on the ends of my bangs for a pop of color. It’s a mix of fierce and stylish, basically, a look that makes you feel unstoppable.
3. Hinata (Naruto)
For my anime-loving side, Hinata is such a perfect pick. Her long, dark hair with soft bangs is almost identical to my natural style, so it’s an easy transformation. All I’d need is a lavender hoodie or jacket, a ninja headband, and some minimal makeup to bring the whole vibe together. Plus, it’s super comfy to wear if I’m hopping between Halloween parties.
4. Selena Quintanilla
Channeling the queen of Tejano music? Yes, please! Selena’s iconic dark, voluminous hair with bangs makes this a natural fit for me. I’d pair it with a sparkly purple jumpsuit or a bold red lipstick moment. This costume just screams confidence and power, exactly what I want to embody on Halloween night.
5. Cleopatra
Sometimes you need a little drama, and Cleopatra delivers just that. Her striking blunt bangs and gold accessories give off major queen energy. I’d go all out with a flowy dress, dramatic winged eyeliner, and a statement headpiece. This costume is perfect if I’m in the mood to be a little extra (and honestly, why not?).
6. Betty Rubble (The Flintstones)
If I want something cute and nostalgic, Betty Rubble is such a fun choice. With her dark hair and simple blue dress, it’s an easy DIY costume that’s instantly recognizable. It’s also super comfy to move around in, so no worries about adjusting things all night while dancing or snacking.
7. Mavis (Hotel Transylvania)
Mavis’ quirky goth-girl energy totally speaks to me. All I need is a black dress, striped tights, and some dark lipstick, and I’m done! This is one of those costumes that takes minimal effort but still looks put together and totally on-theme for Halloween.
8. Audrey Hepburn
Going the classic route with Audrey Hepburn is never a bad idea. A little black dress, pearls, chic updo with my bangs framing my face, it’s timeless, elegant, and perfect for when I want to look glamorous without going spooky. Think Breakfast at Tiffany’s vibes but with a Halloween twist.
9. Lisa (BLACKPINK)
As a huge K-pop fan, I couldn’t resist including Lisa. She’s known for her flawless bangs and killer stage outfits, so this feels very on-brand for me. I’d rock a stylish matching set, thigh-high boots, and some sparkly accessories to channel her confident, high-energy vibe.
10. Velma (Scooby-Doo)
Last but not least, Velma is such a fun, playful choice. Her bob with bangs, orange sweater, red skirt, and chunky glasses are so easy to pull together. It’s cute, comfy, and instantly recognizable. Plus, if I can get a friend to dress up as Daphne or Scooby, it becomes the perfect group costume.
I love how all these costumes highlight my dark brown hair and bangs instead of hiding them. It’s so much easier (and honestly more fun) to embrace my natural look while still playing around with different aesthetics, from spooky and gothic to chic and nostalgic. I’m still torn between a few of these ideas, but I know whichever one I pick will let me feel confident and totally in character.
Which of these would you go for? I’m taking votes before I make my final decision!
